The Farmers' Market

About Us
We’re excited about telling you the news concerning the Connecticut’s Old State House Farmers’ Market. Do you know our market is the oldest in Connecticut? Back in 1643, Hartford was required to establish a “public market” at the site of the Old State House. Today, we’re continuing with this tradition by hosting the Connecticut Old State House Farmers’ Market.

For those of you unfamiliar with downtown Hartford, the Old State House Farmers’ Market (OSHFM) is located on the brick walkway within the wrought iron gates of the Old State House(OSH) bordered by Main Street to the north, Central Row to the west and State House Square to the east. We have over 6,000 local businesses, employing over 80,000 employees who are so close that we call them neighbors. We’re located on the bus route and near to a few stops on the free shuttle service. In addition, we have special parking available on Central Row for “quick” consumer pick up.

Our brick market site is safe, clean and within a metropolitan atmosphere. If you visit the OSH during a normal week day, you would be amazed how bustling and exciting our location is. Currently, local workers and city residents have no source downtown to purchase fresh, healthy farm products.

What’s New
Recently, the Joint Committee on Legislative Management (JCLM), on behalf of the Connecticut General Assembly (CGA), has taken over the operation of the OSH and hopes to implement numerous fresh ideas regarding the OSHFM.

The goal of the OSHFM is to offer a variety of products from as many farmers as possible within the available space. To make this happen we decided to have three distinct farmers’ market programs:

1.   Spring Program: May & June (Monday – Friday)

2.   Summer/Fall Program: July – October (Monday, Wednesday & Friday)

3.   Seasonal Program: November & December (Monday, Wednesday & Friday )

We understand that full representation each day may be impossible for some farmers so we’ve decided to develop independent schedules for the day and month in order to encourage a maximum number of farmers and products.

We are committed to ‘doing what it takes’ to promote the oldest farmers’ market in the state and to be the place where our citizens and our farmers come together and enjoy the “best” of what Connecticut has to offer!
